A Heavenly ChristmasPhilippians 2:1-11 – Service
What does the word service make you think? How easy do you find it to serve people? Think about those people you see the most regularly. How do you serve them? What does your service to them look like? How important to you is it to feel appreciated for what you do? How could you serve without needing to be acknowledged or thanked?
Read John 13:1-17 and think about Jesus’ attitude to service. Pay special attention to verse 3 and consider how this adds context to what Jesus does.
Read Matthew 20:20-28 especially verses 24-28. How should this shape our attitude to what marks success and authority?
Read Matthew 6:25-34. It’s only in serving others that we can truly experience God’s loving care, so let this passage reassure you that God will look after you.
Read Luke 1:26-38 and consider Mary’s attitude to service. Think about all the problems Mary would face by agreeing to be the Lord’s servant. Think about the problems you face by serving.
This week try to serve someone properly. Watch for what thoughts, insecurities and fears go through your head. And then push through!
